Άρχων Πρωτοψάλτης της Μεγάλης του Χριστού Εκκλησίας / Archon Music Teacher of the
Great Church of Christ
The life and work of kyr-Avraam are summarised in his Necrology by Fr. Georgios Stathopoulos [
html] (in Greek).
Biography, list of publications and recording [
html] (in Greek, from ecclesia.gr)
In an interview that was given to Mr G. Stathopoulos and broadcasted by L. Angelopoulos
on radio we hear the following interesting things by the man that not only met Konstantinos
Pringos in person but also wrote down many (if not all) of his compositions.
GS)
How did Pringos chant?
AE) Although he wasn't highly educated, he would get transformed to
something
surrreal while chanting.
GS) Are you a Pringos' student?
AE) I am
everybody's student
GS) Did Pringos have any real students?
AE) No he didn't. Those who claim they are his students and present diplomas are plain signed statements that they
brought to him to sign. (Stanitsas would disagree, according to the book of X. Tsiounis)
GS) Are there any modern Pringos?
AE) No, only corrupted copies.
GS) What does it mean to be a psaltis?
AE) To
understand what we are saying when chanting and to whom we are saying it
to.
We have learnt how to shout and make an impression with our voice, but that
isn't the point.
The whole interview given to (now Fr.) Georgios Stathopoulos [
mp3] including some chanting by Archon kyr-Avraam Efthemiadis at the age of 90!
Thanks to friend Fr.George Stathopoulos for doing that interview and to Lykourgos Angelopoulos
and Konstantinos Angelidis for broadcasting it.
