A Mini-Tribute to Manolis Hatzimarkos, 10 Years since His Passing

Manolis Hatzimarkos (Emmanuel Hatzimarkou) was one of the few Byzantine Cantors whose renown, fame, and influence was felt across all five continents. Considered by many as the most influential cantors of the 20th century, he taught hundreds of individuals in the psaltic art. Many articles have been written about him, and he has received hundreds of distinctions from the Orthodox Churches, musical associations, and his many students. His interpretations of Byzantine music, faithful to the received tradition whose source is Constantinople of old-time, come alive in records, CDs, videos, and continue to inspire younger generations.

Hatzimarkos passed into the Victorious Ecclesia ten years ago. As no event took place to commemorate this sad milestone, we put together a small tribute to him on account of this year transitioning into the new.
