Βιογραφικά / Biography
Ο Γέρων Παίσιος ο Χιλανδαρινός γεννήθηκε στη Σρεμπρένιτσα το 1957 και πέθανε το 2003. Έμαθε μουσική από τους Γρηγοριάτες πατέρες και από τον διακο-Διονύσιο Φιρφιρή. Αποτελεί παράδειγμα παραδοσιακής ερμηνείας του Βυζαντινού μέλους στη Σλαβονική γλώσσα. Στον γ. Παΐσιο οφείλεται κυρίως η στροφή πολλών Σέρβων σήμερα προς την παραδοσιακή μονόφωνη Εκκλησιαστική μουσική.
Archimandrite Pajsije (Tanasijevic) was born on July 7, 1957, in Srebrenica. From
his youth he dedicated his life to God. He attended the monastery school of the
famous Serbian monastery of Ostrog. After a piligrimage to Mt. Athos he decided
to become a monk and was tonsured in 1979 in the Visoki Decani monastery by Patriarch
Pavle, then bishop of Raska and Prizren. Later on Fr. Pajsije moved to Mt. Athos
and upon receiving the Great Schema in 1989, he was elected an Abbot of Hilandar
monastery. He also served as a Protos of Mt. Athos for one year. Fr. Pajsije learned
the Byzantine chant from Gregoriou monastery fathers and deacon Dionysios Firfiris.
He was an excellent psaltis with traditional Athonite yphos. In 1992 he returned
to Serbia and became an Abbot of St. Prochor's monastery near Vranje. Under his
spiritual guidance, many monasteries were revived in Southern Serbia. Fr. Pajsije
translated several books by Elder Paisios from Greek and in 1990 his tape "Hymns
from Hilandar Panygiris - Old Serbian Chant" was released. Fr. Pajsije reposed in
Belgrade on July 20, 2003.
