Papadic Second Tone: Soft or Hard Chromatic?

Panagiotis G.

Μέλος
A general question for everyone. Are Cherouvika in 2nd tone usually chanted soft chromatic or hard chromatic. I have even heard that if a 2nd tone Cherouvikon is listed in soft chromatic, it will be chanted in hard chromatic anyways. Is this true?

Thanks,
Panagiotis George

As a matter of fact, if you take a low pitch basis for Second Mode, it will sound like Plagal Second in the slow papadic pieces. Soft and hard chromatic passages interchange within the same piece depending on the movement of the melody. Technically it is Second Mode (soft chromatic) though.

So how would one chant say, Petros Lampadarios' 2nd mode Cherouvikon (short one)? Any recordings to listen to on it?
