The repertoire that will be covered during this 5-day seminar by Mr. A. Paivanas will be directly from the selection of compositions by Ioannis Protopsaltis, Chourmouzios the Archivist, Iakovos Protopsaltis and Petros Pelopponesios, primarily from the books of Matins and Divine Liturgy of George Progakis, Musical Selection (Mousiki Syllogi), Vol. B and Γ᾽. 1909. Secondary sources will be chosen from the "Pandekti" of Ioannis Protopsaltis-Stephanos Lambadarios.


A Detailed List*
Day 1 - May 15:

- The brief, heirmologic (syllabic) melodies, from the Anastasimatarion of Petros Lambadarios. Discussions on tempo, accidentals, intervals, structure and interpretation of melodies which include: Θεός Κύριος, Kathismata, Anavathmoi, Canons,

Day 2 - May 16:

- A selection from the Polyelaios «Ἐπί των ποταμῶν», (Upon the rivers), composed by Chourmouzios the Archivist in Tone III

Day 3 - May 17:

- A selection from the expanded (melismatic) Doxology, composed by Petros Lambadarios in Tone IV, Hagia.
- The slow «Αἰνεῖτε». from the Laudes, sung in Matins, in ancient sticheraric form, in Tone VIII (πλ. δ´), composed by Iakovos Protopsaltis

Day 4 - May 18:

- Communal hymn, «Είς μνημόσυνον», by Petros Lambadarios in Grave Tone (Tone VII), diatonic, or ...
- Communal hymn, «Αἰνείτε», Ioannis Protopsaltis, in Tone VI, or πλ. β΄

Day 5 - May 19:

- A selection from the "papadic" or melismatic composition from the Anoixandaria, by Ioannis Koukouzelis/Ioannis Kladas, abbreviated by Chourmouzios the Archivist.

Fees are $150 CAD for 5, 2-hour, lessons as proceeds to the School of Byzantine Music of Montreal (Holy Archdiocese of Canada) to support its program and events.
