Can you be more explicit in what you are asking Dimitri? Which elements of the two musics are you wanting compared? eg:

- histories/evolution?
- modal systems?
- their use in religious ritual?

Although a very general topic, I think I can add something about transcribing byzantine chant into staff notation; it can be found here. Author is Alexander Lingas.

I think the best way to discuss them is in regards to their usage in Greek Orthodox Churches, specifically the American Diaspora, although there are other places, including some Greek islands if I am correct. I have very strong feelings about this, as I am sure many of you do too.

Patriarchal Commission on music (1881) clear states that western polyphony (or harmony) is forbitten. I think its rules is the "Constitution" of Byzantine music.
