The Conferences’ general focus on "Byzantine Musical Culture" shapes this year's theme, "Historic Figures: Composers, Poets, Teachers" along with the dedication of the Conference to “Manuel Vryennios: Mathematician, Astronomer, Musician, Poet, Diplomat”.
The Conferences are co-organised by the American Society of Byzantine Music and Hymnology (ASBMH) of the University of Pittsburgh and the European Art Center for the Study of the Culture and Civilisation of the Eastern Roman State in Europe (EUARCE) which is also an advisor to the Society. We are grateful to Athens Information Technology for the generous allocation of their conference facilities.
Athens is the main attraction in the prefecture of Attica and serving as Greece's historical center offers a unique setting for the scholar and musicologist including numerous sites of archaeological interest, museums, libraries and ecclesiastic locations.
