The School of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki organizes a Musicological Study entitled “Two Protopsaltes of the Great Church of Christ. Panayiotes Chalatzoglou (1st half of the 18th century). Ioannes († 1770)”. This Study will include the presentation of a volume written by Emmanouil Giannopoulos, which contains many elements about the cultivation of Psaltic Art in Pontos area, an analytical view of the life and musical activities of the two Protopsaltes and critical edition of their published and unpublished compositions.
The Musicological event will be held in the Cathedral Church of Hagia Sophia, Thessaloniki
on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 7.15 p.m.
Assoc. Prof. Emmanouil Giannopoulos will present the life and the musical works of the two famous Protopsaltes. Some of Panayiotes and Ioannes representative compositions will be performed by the outstanding Archon Protopsaltes and Emeritus Prof. Photios Ketsetzis, and the choir Hydimelon under the direction of Ioannis Tsamis.
