An inspirational presentation of byzantine music in Melbourne

Lambros

Νέο μέλος
On Sunday 22 November 2015, the concert ‘Byzantine Anthology’ was presented in a spiritually uplifting and joyful atmosphere by the Byzantine choir ‘David the Psalmist’.

There was standing room only at the church of Panagia Axion Esti in Northcote, where the choir presented a variety of ecclesiastical hymns under the direction of the enthusiastic choir-master, Lambros Vlahandonis.

The choir has been enriched by the addition of many new members in the past seven years, as a result of the provision of free lessons in Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music. In 2015, there were over 25 students aged from 10 to 60 attending music classes. These students have shown great dedication and made significant progress in their efforts to understand, appreciate and become practitioners of this wonderful and uplifting tradition which dates back many centuries.

The efforts of the choir were blessed by the presence and encouraging words of His Grace Bishop Iezekiel of Dervis and His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, who expressed their great satisfaction and joy at the progress made and their prayer that the efforts of the choir continue into the future with the same dedication and enthusiasm.
