M. Velimirovic, Present status of research in Byzantine music

Παλαιό Μέλος
I uploaded the review article "Present status of research in Byzantine music" by Milos Velimirovic (Acta Musicologica, Vol. 43, Fasc. 1/2 (Jan. - Jun., 1971), pp. 1-20). Although written back in 1971 and therefore somewhat outdated, it is still an interesting reading.

P.S. Since we have been concentrating on the relationships of the Greek and Western researchers lately, Velimirovic explicitly recognises importance of studying the late Byzantine notation (from 15th c. onwards and up to the Three Teachers' times) (see p. 4), does not ignore the Greek research in his review (pp. 15-17), admits existence of diverse opinions in the Western scholarship on some of the theories of MMB (chromaticism, rhythm; see pp. 12-13) and expresses satisfaction because of the Greek participation in the First International Congress for Byzantine Music in 1968 in Grottaferrata (p. 20). The only sarcastic comment made is calling Metropolitan Dionysios Psarianos "the self-styled expert in Byzantine "traditional" music", which however might even reflect the Greek attitude towards Psarianos.
