GKM theory on interlinguistic adaptation
Θεωρια του ΓΚΜ περι προσαρμωσεων του
βασιζομενη εις προσαρμωσεις εκ Ελληνικων προτοτυπων εις Λατινικα, Ρουμανικα, Σλαβονικα
(based on Latin, Rumanian, Slavonic adaptations from GREEK originals)

= the MELODIC SKELETON (metrophonia) must be maintained, if possible, with the SAME words
(this is the FUNDAMENTAL difference between GKM adaptations and those of others as concerns FRENCH and ENGLISH)
θεμελιωδης νομος κατα τον ΓΚΜ == η ΜΕΤΡΟΦΩΝΙΑ πρεπει να διασωθει το κατα δυναμιν, και ει δυνατον, εις τας αντιστοιχουσας λεξεις
εις αυτο το κριτηριον διαφερουν αι εν Γαλλιστει και Αγγλιστει προσαρμωσεις του ΓΚΜ εν συγκρισει με αλλους προσαρμοστας

= the cost is allowing for some "cheating"
=τουτο επιτυγχανεται μετα των εξης

=== lyric syllables are either prolonged or added where this is not so in GREEK
=== αι του κειμενου συλλαβαι ειτε παρεκτηνονται η προστιθονται εις σημεια οπου δεν επιτρεπεται εις τους Ελληνικους τυπους

=== melodic formulae may be "abbreviated" otherwise than what exists in GREEK originals
=== οι μελωδικαι τυποι δυναται οπως συνοψιστουν (συγκπτoυν, συμπυκνωθουν) διαφορετικως απ οτι επιτρεπεται εις τους Ελληνικους τυπους

=== melodic formulae may be "combined" otherwise than what exists in GREEK originals
=== οι μελωδικαι τυποι δυναται οπως συναρθροισθουν συνδυαθουν διαφορετικως απ οτι επιτρεπεται εις τους Ελληνικα

=== "cheat" segments are "rounded off" by applying traditional MELISMS and RUBATO
=== η προσπαθεια καλλωπισεως τοιουτων παραμορφωσεων ειτυγχανεται μετα της προσθηκης παραδοσιακων λαρυγγισμων, μελισματων και καταλλαγην χρονου

Vesperal Lucernaries (translation: Holy Transfiguration Monastery)
PSALM 140
A Psalm of David
Lord, I have cried unto Thee,
hearken unto me;
hearken unto me, O Lord.
Lord, I have cried unto Thee,
hearken unto me;
attend to the voice of my supplication
when I cry unto Thee.
Hearken unto me, O Lord.

Let my prayer be set forth
as incense before Thee,
the lifting up of my hands
as an evening sacrifice.

This recording was made EMPIRICALLY without any composition/adaptation whatsoever (this why, unfortunately, the tempo varies quite frequently.
The purpose is to show how applying ALL traditional means (intervals, melisms, attacks, chronos and rubato) can yield adaptations that can be RECOGNIZED by ALL orthodox peoples IN SPITE of linguistic differences (because the SKELETON = METROPHONIA is respected)

Improvements are to be made in the future when ALL adatations (including Rumanian and Slavonic) will be added to FORMULAR database that will compare them, as well, to PALAEOGRAPHIC manuscripts.

Until then, this is an EXAMPLE of PSALTIKI in ENGLISH by a Hellenophone..

Here is an example of GREEK word equivalents having NOT only similar ACCENTUATION, but also syllabic word structure (same number of syllables per word).
Of course the Greek "hymn" is NONSENSE, but this is what one would have to chant CORRECTLY so that it could make SENSE.
