CALL FOR PAPERS
The VIth International Conference organized by the Institute of Byzantine Musicology will take place this year in Athens on 21-24 October 2015 with the usual main theme “The Theoria and Praxis of the Psaltic Art,” organized and executed in collaboration with the Department of Music of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. This sixth conference, following suit with the previous five, maintains its dual character emphasizing both musicological and psaltic/artistic aspects. This scheme allows for the call for papers inviting all scholars, chanters-musicologists and chanters-artists to participate, as well as the selection of four to five choirs from Greece and abroad.

Under the fundamental theme «Theoria and Praxis of the Psaltic Art» the conference is organized with the title «The Three Teachers, Chrysanthos, Gregorios and Chourmouzios and the New Method of Byzantine musical notation—the bicentennial, 1814/15-2015».
Scholars, musicologists and chanters interested examining the theoretical and musicological topics are invited to contribute to the ongoing dialogue and clarification of issued regarding the thematic aspects of

• theory & notation,
• melopoeïa.

organization and schedule
The conference will take place in the central University of Athens building in Athens from 21-24 October 2015 with the following schedule:

Wednesday, 21 October 2015
• *Afternoon: commencement—key lecture delivered by Prof. Gregorios Stathis
• *Evening: psaltic performance and reception

Thursday, 22 October and Friday, 23 October 2015
• *Morning: individual scientific announcements
• *Afternoon: short presentations
• *Evening: psaltic performances

Saturday, 15 December 2015
• *Morning: individual scientific announcements
• *Noon: round-table session


invitation and call for papers
Scholars and researchers in the fields of the theory and practice of the Psaltic Art, university instructors, musicologists and chanters involved in any area of the conference’s theme are invited to participate.

participation
Participation is possible either via the presentation of scientific announcements lasting 20 minutes during the morning sessions or short presentations lasting 10 minutes during the afternoon sessions. During the afternoon sessions the utilization of graphics, posters (i.e. photographs of manuscripts, tables of theoretical cla-rification, bibliographical information, etc.) is possible. Furthermore, the participation of chanters and musicians as auditors, as well as any interested in participating in the discussion groups of the Conference is highly encouraged.
All types of participants must submit a registration application. Please state clearly the title of the proposed announcement, as well as the types of presentation materials that will be needed. The registration form must be received by the organizational committee by 30 May 2015 and may be submitted either online through Easy Chair Conference System https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icmp2015 (strongly recommended) or via e-mail: conference@ibyzmusic.gr To propose a paper please submit an abstract in Greek or English to a maximum of three hundred words and attach a short biographical note or very select CV. Decisions will be announced by 31 July 2015 by the organizational and program committee.

Participation fee:
The conference participation fee is fifty euro per participant. The organization is unable to cover any expenses, but it may be able to help with finding accommodations at special rates.

Payment
Participation fees are transferred to the bank account, given in the notification email and approval letter.
