Seeking some advice from Protos on handling students impatient to chant.
I have some new students with no experience in Byzantine music who were given the opportunity to improvise stychs much too soon. I had to tighten the reins. Since then, some new students have arrived who do have past experience, and whose improvisations have been fine, even quite good. The original students are now up in arms because they feel it is "unfair" to allow the newer students to chant more than them.
We have had a very positive environment at our analogion for a long time, glory be to God. I do not want this compromised by score-keeping and pettiness.
Please advise how to handle these students. My current goal is to get them and everyone else up to snuff on handling stychs.
