Hi all, a friend of mine in Australia has completed a Byzantine Music book tutorial in pdf draft form and is looking for a cheap publishing deal to print and perhaps publish it for him. Can you suggest any places he should look at even if just for printing and/or publishing?

Thanks.

Depends on the size of the book and number of copies, I think. My guess is that it probably has about between 100-200 pages and the projected number of copies is probably 150-200. Correct? It might make sense to use a POD service. Check these websites to get an idea:

On a different note, will he make the .pdf itself available for purchase for international purchasers?

They aren't that cheap, but I have seen good results with Lulu.

Thanks for your replies. I will pass them on.

They aren't that cheap, but I have seen good results with Lulu.

I have put my Vespers book on Lulu for sale there (because I haven't had time to print out and bind copies myself). Since the book is so large and in color, they claim it costs them $140 to produce each one. So I sell it there for $150, which means that I get $8 for every sale and they allegedly get $2 for every sale. But if it doesn't really cost them $140 to produce each one (which I doubt), they are making a lot more than just $2 per sale on my book.

If the price is the most important factor then one should contact directly the local printing-houses. They will print on large sheets of paper and the bookbinding is a separate service. It is not economical to print less than 500 copies because this quantity will allow you to use offset printing. Only here, in Sofia, by official data there exist more than 2000 printing-houses and the competition ensures the low price. I think the local price in Sofia is about $10-15 per book of 200 pages (low quality printing on cheap paper, 500 copies, the bookbinding included) but many things are cheaper here. If you choose this option, you should ask about the quality of the printing machine. Be prepared to do some of the work yourself - for example to print the pages in one place, the cover in another and make the bookbinding in a third.
